COVID-19 Updates July 8: 753 new cases in Travis County

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus from local health officials, for July 8:

Travis County: 8 new deaths and a record-high 753 new cases were reported on Wednesday, pushing the total number of confirmed cases to 13,161 with 159 deaths. 9,837 of those cases are estimated to be recovered, leaving 3,165 active cases - an increase of 256 from Tuesday.

458 patients are hospitalized across the five county metro area, a decrease of 11 from Tuesday. 149 of those are in intensive care and 91 are on ventilators.

67 new hospital admissions were reported Wednesday, bringing the 7-day moving average of new hospitalizations up to 75.1.

Williamson County: 2 new deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the WilCo death toll to 48. 124 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,442. 109 patients are hospitalized - a decrease of 3 from Tuesday - with 32 in intensive care and 17 on ventilators.

Hays County: 85 new cases were reported on Wednesday, pushing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,328. 2,721 of those are active - an increase of 69 from Tuesday - with 596 recoveries and 11 deaths. 20 patients are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 1 from Tuesday.

Bastrop County: 53 new cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 590. One new death brings the death toll in Bastrop County to 7, with 160 recoveries.

Caldwell County: 90 new cases were reported by DSHS on Wednesday, pushing the total number of confirmed cases to 539.

State of Texas: 9,979 new cases were reported across the state Wednesday, pushing the total statewide to 220,564. 98 new deaths were also reported, pushing the fatality count to 2,813. 324 new hospitalizations were reported, for a total of 9,610 Texans hospitalized across the state.
